Steal shield is an anti theft device that deters the theft of trailers using 1 7/8", 2", or 2 5/16" , Lever Lock, A Frame, or Bulldog style couplers. Each Steal Shield model is , in most cases, a "one size fits all" application. Once in place, the trailer is virtually inoperable, protecting the trailer and its valuables.
The Steal Shield is a heavy duty steel sleeve that is sealed at one end and open at the other. The sleeve has slots on each side at the open end that a flat metal locking bar slides through. The sleeve slides over the trailer hitch and the locking bar slides through the slots in the sleeve, which places the locking bar behind the hitch lever locking device.
Once in place, the locking bar slides through the slots in the sleeve, which places the bar behind the lever ( or in the case of an A Frame or Bulldog application, through a supplied "locking bar clip"). An attempt to remove the Steal Shield by force results in damage to the trailer hitch rendering the hitch assembly inoperable.
18 years ago, the president of Izaya 58 had an idea. Born out of necessity. He needed a way to safely secure his newly built log splitter. He took the idea to a welder, with a description of what he wanted to build. The device proved reliable and many who saw it praised its effectiveness. Having 30 years of service and experience as a police officer, it was clear there was a need for a security device with the increasing number of reported trailer thefts of boats, personal watercraft, snowmobiles, and campers with little recovery rate. In 2001 the device was patented and manufacturing began in 2006.
